Global Conversations

This innovative programme was undertaken in 2010/11 to facilitate and stimulate debate in sustainable development across the globe. Pupils and teachers from Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland formed cluster groups with students in Ghana and Ethiopia and they shared information on their lifestyles and their views on climate change and sustainability through video conference.

This method of engagement proved extremely successful and pupils and teachers who took part in the programme felt that they understood the effects of climate change better and they were motivated to become sustainable global citizens.

As part of this programme a teacher toolkit was developed to include some classroom activities on sustainable development as well as research on Ghana focusing on four topics:
1.       Water
2.       Food
3.       Energy
4.       The environment
