Winter Freeze - Lecture Theatre Show

Take a deep breath and come with us on a journey to the nether world of low temperature as we discover just how low we can go with a series of science demonstrations so cool, they're absolutely freezing!

By exploiting the laws that govern liquids and gases we can make a kettle boil at room temperature or shrink a balloon then watch it expand till it almost goes pop. And as if that's not enough, we can also touch a cloud and hammer a bendy blu-tac nail into solid wood! Oh, and finally, but strictly for fun, you can meet the W5 Bubble Monster!

Running weekends from Saturday 14 to Sunday 22 December and also on Monday 23 December. Please see staff on arrival for show times. Click here to find out more.

    Floor Shows

Santa's Sleigh and the Science Mysteries of Christmas

Christmas – we all know it’s not just toys, turkey and tinsel. There’s cheer, merriment and goodwill besides. But most of all, Christmas is a time of mystery and wonder. For instance, ever wondered how Santa gets around the world so quickly on Christmas Eve? And how exactly does he manage to squeeze himself down a narrow chimney? Join us as we look at these and other Christmas conundrums and propose just a few scientific solutions of our own?

    Merry Sniffmas

Christmas is a feast for all the senses and here at W5 we think nothing evokes Crimbo more than a good whiff of spiced apple and old socks. Well, maybe not the socks but how about Brussels sprouts and gingerbread? Or cinnamon and candle smoke? What’s your favourite seasonal scent? Test your olfactory nerves and remember Christmases gone by with our bespoke test of Christmas smells. Do you know your cranberry from your clove? Don’t ignore your nose this Christmas. Join us and have a very Merry Sniffmas.

Please note, these floor shows will run on weekends from Saturday 7 - Sunday 22 December and also on Monday 23 December. Our floor shows will take place on Level 2. Please see staff on arrival for times.
