Earlier this year, W5 hosted the FIRST Tech Challenge. The FIRST Tech Challenge is a robotics competition that equips young people with the technical knowhow and skills to succeed, connecting them with mentors to design robots, take on industry linked missions and compete in tournaments.
This programme offers students an opportunity to develop their skills in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) whilst working collaboratively in teams. Meeting weekly, teams of up to 15 people, aged 12-18 years, work to design, build and program a robot that can complete a series of tasks in a timed competition.
The competition season culminates in a national championship event where teams across Northern Ireland compete for the title of Northern Ireland FTC Champion. Congratulations to Friends' School, Lisburn who took home the Regional Inspire Award 2022/23.
Thank you to all the schools who took part in FIRST Tech Challenge at W5:
Belfast High School, Methodist College Belfast, Royal Belfast Academical Institution, St Patrick's College Dungannon and Friends' School Lisburn.
