Minecraft Education Competition 1100x620

After months of creativity, collaboration, and innovation, this year's Microsoft Dream Space Minecraft Education Competition - Shelter Crafters: Protecting Communities at W5 LIFE has come to an end, bringing together some of the brightest young minds from across the island of Ireland.

Following the incredible momentum of last year's SEAcrets of the Deep, this year's challenge invited students to step into the role of designers and problem-solvers, tackling of the most important real-world issues - how to protect communities in the face of natural disasters.

A High-Energy Final

The final event saw 40 students from 8 teams, representing 5 schools (Aughnacloy College, Dromara Primary School, Kilmoyle Primary School, Rampark National School, and St. Joseph's College) go head-to-head in an intense showdown.

With just 90 minutes on the clock, teams were tasked with designed and building a disaster-resilient shelter using Minecraft Education. The pressure was on, but students rose to the challenge, demonstrating not only technical skill, but also thoughtful design, teamwork, and a deep understanding of real-world environmental challenges.

Innovation Beyond the Screen

While judges carefully reviewed each build, students took part in a marble run engineering challenge, putting their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test in a fast-paced, hands-on activity. The energy in the room was buzzing, with collaboration on full display throughout the day.

A Tough Decision for Judges

The standard of work this year was exceptionally high, making the judges' job no easy task. Each team brought unique ideas and fresh perspectives to their designs, showcasing just how powerful learning through play can be.

After much deliberation, the winners were announced:

1. The Doughnut Squad - Kilmoyle Primary School

2. The Storm Squad - Kilmoyle Primary School

3. Snow Clones - Dromara Primary School

A huge congratulations to all of this year's finalists, and especially to The Doughnut Squad, whose winning design stood out for its innovation, creativity, and real-world relevance.

    Building Skills That Matter

From exploring disaster resilience to developing teamwork and digital design skills, the Microsoft Dream Space Minecraft Education Competition - Shelter Crafters: Protecting Communities once again highlighted the power of immersive, meaningful learning experiences.

We're incredibly proud of every student and teacher who took part in this year's competition and can't wait to see what next year's challenge will inspire.
