No, you do not need a diagnosis or proof of a condition to attend a Quiet Session. These sessions are open to anyone who feels they would benefit from a quieter, more relaxed environment.
Carers and essential aids are welcome. Carers can attend free of charge with a full-paying child or adult.
Carers will be asked to provide evidence such as front page of Disability Living Allowance (no specific rate required), front page of Attendance Allowance letter (no specific rate required), front page of Personal Independence Payments (no specific rate required), a Nimbus Access Card or Registration Card for charitable organisation which supports disability.
After 12pm, visitor numbers and noise levels may gradually increase as W5 transitions into standard opening hours. Quiet Session visitors are still welcome to stay and enjoy W5 until closing time.
Visitors are welcome to use the Quiet Room at any time during their visit. The Quiet Room features adjustable lighting and sound to create a calming environment. It is located on Level 2 beside Climbit, and a member of staff will be happy to let you in.
A First Aid Room is also available for anyone who may need additional support. Visitors are free to leave these spaces and return if needed.
Sensory aids are available to borrow during your visit, including sensory bags containing ear defenders, sunglasses, fidget toys, and W5-specific communication cards.
W5 has a visual coffee menu at the Coffee Lab on Level 1, allowing customers to order coffee without verbal communication.
Lockers are available on the Ground Floor, through the double doors beside the toilets, where you can store your belongings during your visit. Lockers cost £1, which is refunded when you return the key. Additional lockers are also available on Level 2.
There are toilets located on every level in W5. In the Ground Floor accessible toilet (outside the Gift Shop) we have an adult sized changing facility and hoist (users are required to bring their own sling).
The Lecture Theatre is designed to be as accessible as possible for all visitors. A hearing loop system is available upon request. The theatre also includes a number of removable seats and designated wheelchair spaces.
The main entrance to the Lecture Theatre is on Level 5. Visitors with mobility needs can access the theatre via Level 4 if needed, where a member of staff will escort them to their seats, avoiding the need to use the stairs.
Assistance dogs are welcome and we can provide water for dogs as required.
W5 is a JAM Card-friendly site. JAM Cards let visitors with hidden disabilities, learning difficulties, or communication barriers tell others they need 'Just A Minute' discreetly and easily.
We understand that some visitors may have very specific sensory or environmental needs. Where possible, tailored adjustments can be arranged in advance of your visit. Please contact our team ahead of your visit so we can discuss and support your requirements.
If you have any other questions or need support before your visit, you can contact our team here. We’ll be happy to help and can advise on any specific requirements or adjustments where possible.
