Digital Skills for Life and Work

Thanks to recent funding from the Department for the Economy, W5 LIFE is thrilled to partner with Belfast MET to offer a Digital Skills for Life and Work programme through the Skill Up initiative. This programme is free to participants and will provide accessible digital skills training.

Learners will acquire essential digital skills over two weeks at W5 LIFE and earn an OCN NI Level 2 Award in Digital Skills for Life and Work. Topics that will be covered include:

  • Word Processing: Advanced editing, formatting, table creation, and graphic insertion using industry-standard software.
  • Spreadsheet Software: Data management, analysis, and visualisation through charts and graphs.
  • Presentation Software: Professional presentation creation with multimedia elements.
  • Email Management: Composing, formatting, and managing emails effectively.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI): Exploring ethical AI use and leveraging AI tools for problem-solving and prompt generation.
  • Soft Skills: Helping you gain self-confidence in entering or re-entering the world of work. Communication skills, organisation skills, work ethics, body language and more.
  • Cyber skills: An introduction to cyber security. Understanding the main threats to consider, how to spot them and look out for them. How to protect yourself online, and looking at other security techniques.

This qualification will support those looking to return to work or pursue a career change. It enables learners to build skills across various vocational areas and enhance essential core skills, including career preparation, presentation and teamwork.

Participants must be aged 18 and over and eligible to work in Northern Ireland.
