A full festive experience in a relaxed atmosphere

Our Quiet Sessions are all the same fun of W5 but with much less hustle and bustle.

At W5, we understand that every visitor has unique needs and reasons for attending a Quiet Session. Our goal is to create an inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone can enjoy W5 at their own pace in a calmer, more relaxed setting.

During our Quiet Session, W5 will:

  • Provide a Social Story ahead of time, with information on what to expect during your visit
  • Limit admissions to ensure a calm and relaxing atmosphere
  • Allow flexible arrival and departure times
  • Provide hand sanitiser to borrow for the duration of the visit
  • Lower the volume on exhibits where possible and highlight exhibits which may be a little loud but have no volume control
  • Open The Lost Planet soft activity zone at no extra cost and without timed sessions
  • Allow adults on Climbit and The Lost Planet (in a caring capacity)
  • Allow access to a Quiet Room
  • Allow access to the First Aid Room to manage health conditions

Please note: Noise levels and capacity will increase after 12pm, but Quiet Session visitors are welcome to stay until closing time.

Carers go free with a full-paying child (proof of carer status required).

Pre-booking is essential.

Can I bring a carer or essential aid?

Carers and essential aids are welcome. Carers can attend free of charge with a full-paying child or adult.

Carers will be asked to provide evidence such as front page of Disability Living Allowance (no specific rate required), front page of Attendance Allowance letter (no specific rate required), front page of Personal Independence Payments (no specific rate required), a Nimbus Access Card or Registration Card for a charitable organisation which supports disability.

What happens after 12pm when the noise levels and visitor numbers increase?

After 12pm, visitor numbers and noise levels may gradually increase as W5 transitions into standard opening hours. Quiet Session visitors are still welcome to stay and enjoy W5 until closing time.

Are there quiet spaces available if someone needs a break?

Visitors are welcome to use the Quiet Room at any time during their visit. The Quiet Room features adjustable lighting and sound to create a calming environment. It is located on Level 2 beside Climbit, and a member of staff will be happy to let you in.

A First Aid Room is also available for anyone who may need additional support. Visitors are free to leave these spaces and return if needed.

Are sensory aids available?

Sensory aids are available to borrow during your visit, including ear defenders and sensory bags containing ear defenders, sunglasses, fidget toys, and W5-specific communication cards.

W5 has a visual coffee menu in the Coffee Lab on Level 1 which allows the ordering of coffees without verbal communication.

Lockers are available on the Ground Floor, through the double doors beside the toilets, where you can store your belongings during your visit. Lockers cost £1, which is refunded when you return the key. Additional lockers are also available on Level 2.

Can arrangements be made for specific adjustments during the Quiet Session?

We understand that some visitors may have very specific sensory or environmental needs. Where possible, tailored adjustments can be arranged in advance of your visit. Please contact our team ahead of your visit so we can discuss and support your requirements.

I have another question.
