Get ready for a Halloween full of experiments, discoveries and plenty of surprises at W5’s Science Bar! From exploring what lurks in the darkness to getting stuck into super-spooky slime, our selection of live science shows will put a Halloween twist on some seriously fascinating science.

With a different selection of shows taking place each day, there’s always something new to discover. And if you fancy getting creative, make sure you attend our drop-in sessions and create your very own ghostly companion!

Extreme Existence: The Dark

Take a journey with us as we peer into the darkness and discover what lurks in the shadows. How do animals survive and thrive at night and in places beyond the sun’s reach? Learn what it takes to live in the dark in this interactive show.

Off with a Bang

Crackle! Whoosh! Pop! Watch as our Learning and Engagement team explain the science behind fireworks with eye-popping experiments that are sure to go off with a BANG! Which colourful chemicals light up our night sky? Come along to find out!

Fear

Are you scared of creepy crawlies? Heights? Gruesome diseases? Join us as we explore the reason why we feel fear and the role it plays in keeping us alive. Take a chilling and thrilling journey through some shocks, disgusting delights and dreadful dangers. You’ll be left smiling from fear to fear!

Spooky Slime

This Halloween we’re delving into a vat of super-icky stuff to look at the science behind this ever-so spooky substance. Is it solid, is it liquid, or is it something else? Come see it for yourself. There’s more to slime than meets your eyeball.

Build a Boo Drop-in Sessions

In the spirit of Halloween, bring your little witches and wizards along to the Science Bar and conjure up your very own ghostly friend! This spooky paper craft lets you create a ghoul new companion and add to your very own ghostly gang.
